Barbara Buck – In Memoriam

Barbara Buck

Barbara Buck 1948 – 2019

It is with great sadness that we inform Barbara’s devoted followers that she passed away at the end of December.

Barbara joined us here at Quilts for Sale in the spring of 2012 and became our most popular quilter and our biggest seller. Her quilts were loved and appreciated by many. Her testimonials, included below, prove that. Every one of her quilts sold – a total of 151 of them!

Besides co-workers, Barbara and I became friends over those 8 years and I, along with all of her friends, are missing her very much. She was a very special woman in every way.

Barbara’s Testimonials:

The quilt, Adopt A Puppy, arrived today and I am over the moon about it!!! It is gorgeous!!!! My husband was upstairs watching football and came running when I screamed with delight!!! All I know to say is that you are one talented quilter and God has blessed you with a talent and I feel blessed to have this quilt for my precious granddaughter!! Thank you so much and I truly believe I was led to your quilts by a power greater than us. My only problem is I hope I can keep it a secret until Christmas!! I am so excited! I LOVE it and you are now a member of my family whether you want to be or not! Haha. Thank you again. – With my best regards, J. K, North Carolina.

” The ponies were galloping! The mail arrived right as I was leaving for work yesterday! Opened the box last night when I got home. That quilt (A Frog’s Story) is so awesome!!! Barb, your talent is amazing. I can’t wait to give it to Lincoln. I have the cutest little stuffed frog to go with it. – Janice Stevenson

The 5 quilts . . . you made – Americana, A Passion for Purple, Briar Patch, Everglade, and Milky Way came today. They are all amazing. You are so talented . . . beautiful. I really like them.I want you to know how much I appreciate you, your professionalism .and your quilts. I so enjoy purchasing these beautiful keepsakes. I am blessed to be able to share with so many as gifts, not only with family and friends . . .but that person the comes my way in this life that needs that warm sense of home, the old days, the old ways and a touch of kindness. Something they can wrap themselves up in for the hug when they need one. Love comes to us in many forms even in the form of quilt, be it new or old . . . just knowing a pair of hands filled with true kindness took the time to create “love in color”, to be shared today ,yesterday and for generations to come. Thank you again. Our Lord’s Blessings, Mrs. Lyon, Arizona

Oh my goodness!!! I have goose bumps after having just opened the Balloon Ride Teddy Bear quilt. The picture did it no justice. It is precious!! The quilting is far above what I hoped for, and I KNOW it will be loved, used, and I hope passed on to the next generation of Drurys. I will tell everyone I know about your beautiful quilts. Thank you so very much. I will send a picture of the twins with the quilt very soon. – Lynn Drury, Maryland

I purchased Border Blast from Barbara and love it. The quilt is beautiful and well-made. Barbara was a pleasure to deal with and the transaction was very easy. – D. H., Virginia

Barbara’s Obituary:
On Saturday, December 28, 2019, Barbara Buck, a loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at age 71. She fought a tough battle with lung cancer but unfortunately succumbed to the disease. Barbara was born on April 15, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was raised in New Hampshire and attended college at the University of New Hampshire. On August 22, 1968, she married David Buck, her best friend. They met in New Hampshire while David was in the U.S. Army Special Forces and Barbara was attending college and waitressing. They enjoyed 51 wonderful years of marriage together. They raised two children, daughter Donna Sharp and son, David Buck, Jr. She also had two grandsons, Michael Buck and Kameron Kelleher. In addition, she raised a very spoiled German Shorthair pointer, Abigail, who was her second most love.

Barbara had a passion for sewing and quilting. Her quilting skills were unmatched by anyone in the trade. When not quilting, she and David would travel with close friends and see the sights. She was known for her determination, quick wit, infectious smile, and kind and compassionate spirit. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Alice, father, Guy, and her sister Norma. She is survived by her husband David, their two children, grandsons and sisters, Faye, Janet, Colleen, and Gloria. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation in her name through Driskill Memorial Chapel at 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845.

In her honour, we will leave her web pages up through February. All of Barbara’s  friends will carry her memory in their hearts.
