Elizabeth Ralph
Elizabeth Ralph
Elizabeth owns a log house in the rural town of Beersheba Springs, Tennessee. This small town on the Cumberland Plateau has a population of about 550 people and many of the women have helped to support their families by making beautiful quilts, some of which are shown here. When furnishing her log house, Elizabeth wanted to bring the colours and beauty of Tennessee quilts into her home and at the same time, support the local crafts people. She continues to collect the finest of the quilts made in this area and now offers them to quilt lovers all over the United States and Canada.

Untitled Document The king size quilt, Homespun, I purchased from Elizabeth Ralph this week is absolutely beautiful. It is just as pictured, and I thank Elizabeth for taking the effort and time to send the extra close-up pictures and description as well as answering questions. She was very prompt and complete with her replies. The quilt is all hand quilted to perfection, no machine top stitching. It is a real treasure! I am a quilter myself so I can appreciate all the time consuming, meticulous handwork. I have made all sizes of quilts over the years, but at my age, I don't feel I can tackle a king size and get it to completion, so buying this one is a nice alternative for me. I am still making smaller items like lap size, wall hanging and twin, and I may contact you at some point if I have one to sell. Thank you for your lovely web site and way to connect with quilters. - Z. Hilton,Tucson, Arizona

All hand quilted with a high grade of cotton calicos, this quilt is one you will feel comfortable sleeping under right away. Double Wedding Ring

Double Wedding Ring
Size: 98 x 63 inches (Twin Size)
Description: Tennessee handmade quilt. Very soft, vibrant fabrics in coordinating colors. What can be more romantic than a Double Wedding Ring quilt? Although this pattern is often thought of as a 20th century quilt, it appears to have evolved from a very old design. The very name inspires thoughts of romance and wedlock, and certainly many of these scalloped-arc quilts have been started to celebrate impending marriages - although they may not have been finished until the first child's appearance! Although many quilter's catalog the Double Wedding Ring (DWR) in its most popular period - the Great Depression - this lively pattern is still popular today as can be seen in this exquisite Tennessee handmade quilt. Another example of interlocking rings is found in the Gimmal ring, popular in Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries. During the engagement period, one was worn by the man and the other by the woman. When they married, the two rings were fitted together and worn by the wife. The Double Wedding Ring pattern was first published by Capper's Weekly in 1928. The beauty of this quilt is that it is small enough to be used as a coverlet on the end of a bed, or as a decorative piece in a den, or on a childs bed as a symbol of the love that binds.
Technique: Machine Pieced for durability. Quilted Completely by Hand.
Fabrics: All first quality cotton materials.
