Margarine on Toast
Quilter: Helen Hubert
Size: 65 x 79 inches (Twin Size)
Description: This is a lovely quilt made from a combination of vintage Dresden Plates and current quilting fabrics. The Dresden Plates were made by a local woman back in the 1960s, and given to me by her daughter. The yellow background and the blue sashing fabrics are new quilting cottons purchased to reflect the era of the plates. If you have a vintage-inspired room that takes you back to those simpler times this would be the PERFECT quilt to complete the decor.
This quilt has already been washed once to remove excess dye and chemicals from the fabric manufacturing process.
Technique: Dresden Plates were hand-appliqued to the background fabric. All other stitching is by machine. Beautifully machine quilted with yellow and blue threads, creating additional interest on the quilt back.
Helen Hubert, Custom Linens by Helen http://www.caledoniaquilter.blogspot.ca
Fabrics: Dresden Plates - content is unknown but appears to be cotton. Remainder is 100% cotton.
Batting: Hobbs 80% Cotton/20% Polyester
Care: Machine wash in cool water on the gentle cycle. Drying flat is the preferred method to reduce wear, but the quilt may also be machine dried on the cool and gentle cycle.

Antique Double Irish Chain

Antique Double Irish Chain
Quilter: Elizabeth Ralph
Size: 72 x 85 inches (Double/Full Size)
Description: 130 years old - signed and dated (white-on-white) on the back: Mattie Akard June 12, 1884. n - During the nineteenth century the color was referred to as “chrome orange” or “antimony”. (Unusual color combination -Yellow/Orange). Very typical of the period, this pattern has been popular over the years and it leaves a nice solid space between the chains to display the maker's needlework skills. Note the consistency in the beautiful triple clam-shell design in the white spaces which is very desirable in 19th century quilts. Parallel rows of quilting are used through the chain. The front is turned back to hem which was a prevalent practice in the South and for a quilt of this period.
The quilt has had moderate use, but is in excellent condition. Evaluated and authenticated by a well-known textile artist and founding member of the American Quilt Study Group (AQSG).
